Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama – new release date finally announced
This month, Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, the classic anime representation of Valmiki’s godlike epic, will return to Indian theaters. Initially planned for October 18, 2024, the 1993 Japanese-Indian activity showstopper will instep be discharged on January 24, 2025.
One of the movie’s wholesalers, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, pronounced on social media that the energized motion picture would be accessible in 4K in Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu.

Fans are excitedly anticipating the updated edition of Ramayana: The Legend of Prince Rama, and the trailer is set to debut on January 10. The film is distributed by Anil Thadani’s AA Films, Excel Entertainment, which is run by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, and Geek Pictures India.
Screenwriter Vijayendra Prasad, who is well-known for his work on RRR and Baahubali, has directed the imaginative adaptation of the new versions. Geek Pictures India co-founder Arjun Aggarwal expressed his excitement for the project, saying the company wants to bring both novices and fans to this well-loved tale.
He went on to say that it was more than just a movie and a generation-spanning celebration of our culture, presenting India’s legacy via the unmatched creativity of Japanese anime.
The anime adaptation was first shown at the 24th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in 1993, although it was never shown on a large screen. When the movie was rerun on television in the early 2000s, it developed a loyal following. Koichi Sasaki, Ram Mohan, and Yugo Sako directed it.
Bollywood filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari is also working on a live-action Ramayana adaption, which will star Yash, Sai Pallavi, and Ranbir Kapoor, in addition to this release. In 2026 or 2027, it will be made available for purchase on Diwali.
